Flights to Cardiff

When getting a flight to Cardiff remember to plan ahead and organize the best way to get to your onward destination whether it is Cardiff, Swansea or a destination further away.

When you get off your flight to Cardiff you will have to clear immigration, collect your luggage and clear customs. There are free baggage trolleys available in designated areas outside the airport terminal building and within the arrivals hall.


Cardiff International Airport is twelve miles west of Cardiff and can be reached by car, coach or taxi. If you are being collected ask the person collecting you to suggest a suitable location to meet so you will not miss them. If you are being collected there is a pick-up and drop-off for passengers in the short term car park close to the terminal building which offers free parking for up to twenty minutes. There are security measures on the approach roads to the airport.

For most people getting off a flight to Cardiff and getting to their final destination usually involves the quickest and easiest way to get there. The best options for this is the most expensive however it is the most convenient and like all airports the taxis are not the cheapest. At present the taxi company operating from Cardiff International Airport offers a fixed fee for journeys between the airport and the city centre regardless of the time.

There is a rail service however this does not drop passengers off at the airport. The rail station is a bus journey away, which is offered as part of the rail fare and the coach is usually there to meet the train.

The bus service is operated by Airbus Xpress on service X91 and operates seven days a week. Please check the latest schedule prior to your arrival at Cardiff Airport. National Express also operates a coach service to and from Cardiff airport.

You can also collect your car from one of the car rental companies you should have pre-booked with.

Should you need to change any currency there is a Bureau de Change situated within the terminal building.

There are lots to do and see in Wales and remember the airport will be busier in the summer and during school holiday periods. There is also a lot of large events on in the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff such as the six nations rugby and various music events so make sure you have booked your car rental and accommodation.
